Checking In — Our Founder’s Favorite Spots Along the Amalfi Coast
There are few things that top an Italian summer, especially one spent along the Amalfi Coast. Deep blue ocean hues, fresh, citrus-based cocktails, and the cascading seaside landscape create an atmosphere that simply can’t be beat.
Planning a trip to the Amalfi Coast, however, can feel quite intimidating. With a long list of stunning spots, five-star restaurants, and must-do sightseeing, it can be a challenge to streamline your itinerary.
If you’re lucky enough to be planning your own trip this summer, use this guide to source the best dining, bar, and hotel recommendations.
And if you’re unable to book a flight to this highly coveted destination, mimic the magic at home by burning your very own Hotel Lobby Capri and Positano candles. (We also recommend pouring yourself a spritz to elevate the vibe.)
Without further ado, here are a handful of our favorite spots to stay, eat, and drink in Positano and Capri.
The Best Hotels in Positano
You can’t top the location of this boutique property. In true Positano fashion, the hotel is situated between rugged cliff tops and the shimmering Mediterranean Sea. Reserving a room at Hotel Villa Franca puts you in the center of a lavish food and beverage scene. You’ll also be just steps away from a couple of beaches.
If you’re heading to Positano for a special occasion or you’re simply prepared to splurge, there is truly nowhere more iconic than Le Sirenuse. It's the perfect spot to post up and enjoy sweeping ocean views, good hospitality, and peak relaxation.
One of Le Sirenuse's most noteworthy guests was John Steinbeck, who famously wrote, "Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn't quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone."
Experience your own slice of paradise at this luxury property, which has an elevator built into the rocks that will transport you down to a secluded private beach. Dine while taking in the coastal view, sip on an aperol spritz, or take a workout class underneath a lemon orchard. Regardless of how you spend your time, you’ll be sure to leave feeling refreshed.
Feeling fancy? Book your own private villa, complete with a bright blue pool, at this ultra-luxury cliffside resort. Other accommodations include suites with plunge pools, peaceful terraces, and outdoor copper tubs. The hotel offers several farm-to-table dining options, which all have menus inspired by fresh, Mediterranean ingredients.
The Best Restaurants and Bars in Positano
If you’re looking for a unique dining experience, be sure to make a reservation at La Tagliata. It’s located just 20 minutes from town in an area named Montepertuso. The restaurant will send a car to pick you up and you’ll be whisked away to a stunning setting in the mountains. While there’s no menu, the chefs are known to serve meat-forward dishes that they’re inspired by on that particular day. It’s an experience you won’t ever forget.
It’s essential that you indulge while in Italy, and this Italian and Mediterranean fusion restaurant makes a convincing case for you to spoil yourself. The atmosphere is chic and modern yet somehow timeless. The dishes are so flavorful and satisfying that you’ll be itching for more. Order the tagliolini, crema di zucca, or paccheri — you can’t go wrong.
If you stay at Le Sirenuse, you will likely stumble upon this nearby outdoor bar. It’s an absolute must-visit while in Positano, particularly during sunset. They open at 4 pm, but try to go early and wait near the entrance so you’re among the first people who are let in. Snag a table by the ledge so you can enjoy the best view. Order an aperol spritz and eat as many Cascastelvetrano olives and almonds as you can.
